Blog Goal

The primary goal of this blog is to be an encouragement to other Christians to witness and share their faith.  This will be with a focus on those who have busy lives (family, full time job, etc…) and do not live in big cities.

Within the last year or so I have come upon several blogs and websites encouraging people do evangelism (Those blogs and websites will be listed in my links).  Those sites have been great in encouraging me to share my faith.  They have all included accounts of actual witnessing encounters (text, audio and video), as well as tips and ideas for witnessing.  Reading about and hearing/seeing the actual witnessing encounters helped me to have more confidence in what to say and convicted me even more to get out and witness!

All of the blogs I have found seem to be put out there by people who have full time ministry jobs.  They were either Pastors or full time Evangelists and they all live in big cities where they could just go out and have a constant stream of people walking by to witness to.  This blog will focus on people who have full time jobs (that are not in ministry), a family, various other responsibilities and do not live in large towns.

My Excuses For Not Witnessing

I have had many excuses for not passing out tracts and witnessing more often.   I have listed those excuses below.  My hope is that by listing these excuses and having the blog to hold me accountable, I will witness and share my faith more often!  Additionally, I hope that it will show people in similar situations that it is still possible to witness on a regular basis.

My excuses

  • I am married with 4 kids (6 months, 2, 4 and 6), and I have a full time job.  That doesn’t leave much time for evangelism.
    • That is excuse number 1.  Thinking about it just shows me that while it is essentially true, it means that I will need to witness whenever I get the chance instead of just waiting for set witnessing trips or outings with my church.
  • I don’t have the best memory and may not know what to say.
    • The Bible tells us to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Ti 2:15).  So I studied and wrote out witnessing notes to remind myself of good verses to use.  I will list those resources on the Tracting Tips page as well as information on how to create your own notes.
    • I also need to keep in mind that it is God and His law that does the converting, not me or how eloquent (or not) I am! (Psa 19:7)
  • I am hard of hearing (I wear hearing aids).  That makes it hard to talk to people, especially if I am not wearing them.  When I am wearing my hearing aids, if there is a lot of noise or wind, it is still very hard for me to hear and carry on a conversation.
    • This is probably my biggest excuse.   But the fact is that I don’t hear very well, and I can’t really change that.  That doesn’t excuse me from witnessing!   I will just have to pray that God will give me witnessing opportunities where I can hear and communicate well.
  • I live in a small town (pop. 1649) in the Midwest so I also have to deal with snow and bad weather.  The larger towns around me are all under 180,000 people.  That makes it harder to find witnessing opportunities with large groups of people.
    • Once again, this excuse just shows me I need to witness whenever I get the chance.
    • There is also a college in the town I work in.  I could go there at lunch to witness.  Basically, I will need to plan soul winning activities and watch for local events that might gather a crowd.

So there are my excuses, what are yours?   I have come to realize, that while those may seem like valid excuses, they are in no way valid when I remember that souls are at stake!  Jesus told all Christians to spread the Gospel (Mat 28:19-20).  Am I really going to stand before God after I die and explain to Him why I didn’t witness more by saying, “well…  I didn’t really have time and it was hard to remember what to say and oh yea… I can’t hear to well?”

No!  When I stand before God, I want to hear “Well done, [thou] good and faithful servant” (Mat 25:21)!  As Christians, we have the “words of eternal life” (Jhn 6:68).  I want to share those words and God’s amazing gift with as many people as possible!

I hope this site is an encouragement to you and that you will witness whenever the opportunity arises.

I plan on posting tract pictures and sharing successes as well as failures.  God willing, this site will show that anyone can witness no matter how “busy” they are or what excuses they have.
